Battlezone II Canon Discussion
Hey, you know as well as I how crap BZ2's story is. Parts of it only work because we *made* them work.

Re: Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising
I don't think it's crap. I think it's incomplete.
I like its ambiguity as it leaves a lot of room to fill with mod stories.
QF2 will fill in a LOT of those gaps by the way.

It's crap *because* it's incomplete. Were it not for us, it'd make no sense.

Which specific parts are you referring to?
I thought the story was fairly comprehensive and logical.

Re: Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising
I too think that BZ2 story was easy to understand, I played the single player missions umpteen times before I got a good enough internet to play G66. I still play it all the way through on rainy weekends. I love the story. No way can I get into a big long, well thought out story when playing a video game. i tried reading all the stuff for FE and couldn't finish it, went straight to playing. I'm in it for the fun, not the story. In BZ2 you go right to kicking ass, and building base after 3 or 4 training missions. Well done!
Good to hear QF2 has some story fillers.

Re: Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising
The main plot itself works fine, it's the subplots that don't work. The side mission with Manson had potential but was never explained. You just blew up a random building and that was that. The ruins on Mire, Rend and Bane could have been explained, but weren't.
Hell, most players have completely failed to grasp the fact that the Core in the ISDF missions is completely different from the Dark Planet. Some even still think the Scions are the same as BZ1's Furies.

Re: Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising
The side mission with Manson destroying the 'quarry' was about removing evidence that the ISDF had already been to the Dark Planet. I have to assume that the quarry was not the right model originally intended and hence confuses the player.
The ruins on Mire, Bane and Rend are the result of a Cthonian colony. QF2 explains it better.

The devs didn't have the confidence to keep the story line true to the history.AHadley wrote:Some even still think the Scions are the same as BZ1's Furies.
Many story lines go that route.
Look at Game of Thrones for example, a wonderful alternate reality that is rich in politics, social and cultural interaction, intrigue, etc . . with very little "magic" and metaphysics.
Great first season. But here we are at the end of season 2 and the supernatural is coming out of the freakin' woodwork.

What were the ISDF doing on Dark Planet? Without knowing that, that arc (small though it is) makes much less sense.bigbadbogie wrote:The side mission with Manson destroying the 'quarry' was about removing evidence that the ISDF had already been to the Dark Planet. Only the Mire ruins have Cthonian text inside, and this could have easily been added at a later date. Especially if they don't respect other races or their history, which, they probably don't.
Yes, it makes sense that the Cthonians did stop by in the Mire system, it is unlikely that they are the origin of the ruins entirely, especially considering that at the time they wouldn't have not had the technology needed to create the Alchimators.
In addition, even looking at the early beta assets for BZ2, Scions were *always* what they are now. It was never indeterminate. They had full confidence in what they were doing as an extension of BZ1. In fact, BZ2 and BZ1 fit together perfectly with no rewriting, it is just that facts are left OUT that confuses people. That, and no one read the damn BZ2 manual.

They were Braddock's secret forces hunting down the Scions. Just like on Pluto.AHadley wrote:What were the ISDF doing on Dark Planet? Without knowing that, that arc (small though it is) makes much less sense.
I have come up with a story which fills in all of the gaps about that system and allows the ruins and alchemators to be of Cthonian origin. It's a major backstory of QF2.Nielk1 wrote:Only the Mire ruins have Cthonian text inside, and this could have easily been added at a later date. Awwww, crap. Means the QF can't exist in the accepted primary timeline...
Re: Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising
Clearly not. The Scions left them there, even the scavengers. They're excavating one of the Core computer things.bigbadbogie wrote:They were Braddock's secret forces hunting down the Scions.
