I have played both DotA and HoN, most ppl in public games are quiet, but words such as "Stop feeding!" "why no miss" "lag I leave" "Why no help?" "Noob". are common.

Ask yourself this, how often do you meet someone that clearly is missing some social skills? I tend to bump into someone like that every other time I go get my groceries. So I do not find it that strange to bump into individuals like it inmgame more often as time goes by (the most rotten of us all are now also able to get a PC, heck even people without a job get enough cash from keeping their hand up in order to buy a decent budget system, over here at least).

For me it simple boils down to 3 things:
1)Lack of social skills
2)Selfproclaimed superior stance towards others (see 1)
3)Ignorance ('I didnt know I had to look before crossing the road, did you had to break hard before crashing into that tree?' Than back to 1, 'not my problem though'.)

Best way to deal with it (eventually), push its head in .. HARD. If they dont learn they learn to stay away from you. :)

There are actually some studies concerning this subject, cant be bothered to look them up now. They are good reads though, its nice to see through people and smack them with their own actions/words :)
(Iirc, the concencus is that people that need to 'be better' and express this publicly by bashing others often feel a lack of happyness in their own life, which explains why they keep coming back for that dosis of 'victory'.)

Pre-edit:
Check the lines and see to who it aplies :D

In LoL, it is highly competitive. One person on a 5 man team can make all the difference. That is the reason why the community is so bad; it has little tolerance for newbies and people who just plain suck at the game. Do they have a life? No. Do they have emotional intellgence? Considering that they're typing in all caps and calling other player's names I wouldn't like to repeat, I guess not.

Idiots will be idiots, no matter where you go. The game itself and the age, however, do make a difference.

I play competitive games fine with others, however, I can take a loss, I can admit a mistake, and I prefer to have fun rather than win. Wins are just nice, not a necessity.

Losing to human opponents hits a much bigger dent into my crown than losing to AI.

I played Battlefield1942 for nearly a year (back in 2002ish), and it was fun like hell. But in this time I broke 3 keyboards, 2 trackballs, all due to rage, and got a sore shoulder because often when I got angry at myself, I went boxing my punching bag like mad without warming up before.

Swearing at team mates is just a normal part of it, and completely harmless. BTW I used to play soccer for a long time and it was the same there. It means being real and honest. My advice: get a thicker skin, learn to take and to dish out.

I don't get how gaming can get people mad at all. Maybe that's why I'm so bad at games.

I played BF2142 recently (wow, is it a wasteland in there) and I only got mad once, and that was due to being Jihad jet'ed (for which the pilot was banned for excessive vehicle collision / explosions. People just agree that running over someone with a jet is ridiculous).

Some people get a kick out of inflating their ego by being (or thinking they are) really good at a game. The shock of an over inflated ego popping, can often provoke an uncontrolled emotional response from members of the "inferior species". :)

It's like driving. You are the master of your own domain, we are conditioned to win games, and when that is taken from us by another human being, it is normal to get mad.

Swearing is not normal it just a sign of a poor upbringing and or being under educated.

Not really. I have friends who have good upbringings and are smarter than me, yet cuss.
It's more of a thing that you see everyone else do, so you do it too. Plenty of people I know like that. I refrain from doing it though.

Education doesnt kill emotions, even though it seriously tries to by focusing on the rational things in life.
