In some places it is, In other places a few hundred thousand people needlessly starving to death because nobody can be bothered to get off their fat butts to help is not news.

In order to fight evil you have to know what good is.
We've been shipping food to starving Africans off and on for as long as I can remember, and the result is always more starving people next year. Feeding them appears to make the problem worse.

All nations used to do this. The primary reason is that you know that not all of your kids are going to make it. That's why they will continue having large families. Maybe one out of four will survive. Can't just let the population completely die off now, can we?

There was a book published some years back giving a peek at all that 'aid' that has been sent. It was called The Road to Hell but i can't recall the author.

Basically the issue is that most aid organizations are short-sighted at best, or corrupt at worst. Do you really know how those donations are distributed?

i saw that the famine centers around Mogadishu, the same place that is a safe harbor for the pirates that attack ships and hold them for ransom and the setting for 'Black Hawk Down'. yeah, i'm all broke up about it.

Would that be the same pirates who used to be fishermen until European fishing fleets destroyed their fish stocks?
