Actually, the very best thing that could happen is that the federal gubmint does shut down. why would we want something that wastes so much money to keep running anyways? the thing is so bloated with bureaucracy that it's like watching one of those 1600 pound people gorge themselves an all-you-can-eat buffet completely blocking the door so that no one else can eat.

uhhh, the economy is already destroyed - by the one who says others are to blame.

That is what the dems want the country to believe. The GOP wanted to apply some tough love. When do you put your foot down? 12 trillion. . .14. . .18. . .20? I was stunned it got to 10. I fully realize the GOP is not innocent in the insane escalation, but I think they have awakened from the gorging high a bit sooner.VSMIT wrote:Clavin12 wrote:You do realize that the GOP was fully prepared to destroy the US economy, right?

In agreement with you I say the government must go on a crash diet or die and be replaced. Such measures are never pleasant or appealing but they are the only hope.Red Devil wrote:uhhh, the economy is already destroyed - by the one who says others are to blame.

Funny how this pretty much boiled down to a debate over Paul. I have said before my views of him and PR brings up some good points I forgot to mention.

Re: GOP Roundup, part one
Got this today.
"STUFF"
Some folks love free stuff.
The folks who get free stuff, don't really like the folks who are paying for free stuff, because the folks who are paying for the free stuff, can no longer afford to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff.
Thus, the folks who are paying for free stuff, want the free stuff to stop.
The folks who are getting free stuff, want even more free stuff on top of free stuff they already get.
Now...the people who are forcing the people who pay for free stuff, have told the people who are receiving free stuff, that the people who are paying for free stuff, are mean, prejudiced, racist and want the country to collapse.
So...the people who get free stuff, are convinced they need to hate the people who are paying for free stuff, by the people who are forcing the people who pay for their free stuff, and giving them the free stuff in the first place.
We have let the free stuff giving go on for so long that there are now people who were paying for free stuff give up on paying and join those folks who have been getting free stuff for a long, long time.
Now it is time for me to decide if I want free stuff before there is no one left to pay for free stuff.

Re: GOP Roundup, part one
I was half expecting someone to nitpick my post and insult me considering how I view things. (since that is inevitable regardless of where I go)
Anyway, now to elaborate on Ron Paul now that I've had half an hour to read some of his points.
There's two big things already that would reject my vote for him.
1. His stance on immigration. He is against it, and that is not good for our country. We have a free nation for a reason because of our Constitution. We wouldn't have such a diverse culture if it wasn't for immigration, so I'm sorry, that is already strike 1.
2. Again on immigration, he is against Deportation. WTF? Illegals don't belong in the states. I don't care how they got here, but they need to go. They broke the law just by entering this country illegally without going through the legal process of either obtaining a visa or becoming a US Citizen. Strike 2.
3. No tax plan that I can definitively see. Yes, I looked around, and on his official site, he only states he wants to repeal the 16th amendment and knock out the IRS. Ok, that's fine and dandy, but what else? I don't see how he plans to collect taxes, I don't see what he intends to replace the income tax with. WHAT? No plan equals no vote. Strike 3.
There's a few other things, but those are my top issues. Herman Cain so far has provided a tax plan that sounds crazy enough that it could work. He also firmly believes in immigration, and also make an easier process to gain a legal citizenship, and deport those that are illegal and do not belong here in the states. He also has ideas to bring the US back into the international competitive market so we can FINALLY produce our own goods again, and not ship everything off to India, or China, or Taiwan or somewhere for cheap labor. No, we need the jobs here to turn the economy around, and I firmly believe Ron Paul will not achieve that goal.

How do you figure he's against immigration? I've never heard him say anything against immigration...

Maybe not fully against, but he does have a dumb idea about how to handle it.
Meet The Press interview, Dec. 23, 2007 by Tim Russert:
His stance on a border fence isn't clear either. I fully support the idea of a big electric fence, 5 ft. under, and 15-20 ft. high. It says that he voted for one bill with a fence, but at the same time, he doesn't support it either. So he's not making much sense on some matters.
Meet The Press interview, Dec. 23, 2007 by Tim Russert:
From: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22342301/ns ... cript-dec/MR. RUSSERT: Let me ask you about immigration because that's a big issue here, and there has been a profound change. Back when you ran for president, 1988, libertarian, you said, "As in our country's first 150 years, there shouldn't be any immigration policy at all. We should welcome everyone who wants to come here and work." You've changed your view.
REP. PAUL: And, and during that campaign, I remember I got into trouble with Libertarians because I said there may well be a time when immigration is like an invasion and we have to treat it differently. And I think, in one sense, with the welfare state out of control--see, my approach to immigration is somewhat different than the others. Mine is you deal with it economically. We're in worse shape now because we subsidize immigration. We give food stamps, Social Security, free medical care, free education and amnesty. So you subsidize it, and you have a mess. Our hospitals are being closed. Conditions have changed. And I think that we should have--and, and 9/11 has occurred. Why shouldn't we be looking at people coming in? So there's--this, this means that we should look at immigration differently. It's an economic issue more than anything. If our economy was in good health, I--believe me, I don't think there'd be an immigration problem. We'd be looking for workers and we would be very generous.

I'm not sure what his stance on a physical border is either. Even if a fence were 100' high people would still get over or through it if they really wanted.
Skip to 7:45 for immigration. Watching the whole thing is not a bad idea, though.

It makes sense to me. He's saying that because we offer so much free stuff and we make out our country as an immigration magnet it is draining our economy. Especially note the last two lines that you quoted.TwinShadow wrote:Maybe not fully against, but he does have a dumb idea about how to handle it.
