1.2 APC engage range?

Post by Col Klink »

There's no entry in the 1.2 ivapc.odf was this fixed in later versions of BZII or is the APC code broken in terms of engaging targets when a unit is told to hold. Other units will still engage enemies when they come to within their engage range. The APC just sits there kind of stupid like. Are there added odf entries for this in the later versions that force an APC to attack under hold conditions? Thanks.

So, nobody on this entire forum has any clue about this issue? This definely ain't the old BZU cause I know that I'd have already had several posts with something useful.

1) Stop bumping topics. Wait a week before whining.

2) 1.2 is not supported here.

3) APCs are different from other units. By the order of the original BZ2 designers. Same with bombers. If that means that APCs/bombers don't work like tanks, then that's the way it was meant to be in 1.0 and up.

4) I have no plans to make any changes to APCs to make them work like other units. I've got plenty of tweaks on my list to areas of code that interest me a lot more.

Like GSH said, the APC's AI was built that way. If you are modding, you can change the AiName to get it to behave differently. RocketTankFriend/Enemy and MorphTankFriendEnemy will work, with different properties. You can also give an APC weapons and have it use them, if you want it to do that.

I think we should award Col Klink the official "Last Person Playing 1.2 award"
FYI, Hell froze over...even the last few Diehard 1.2 vets, have now either stopped playing or have moved to 1.3. This may be because they can no longer find other 1.2 hosts to join, Or because their new operating systems cannot run it.
It is time for you to seriously question the point in continuing to mod it.

The exodus has occurred. I thought that would never happen.

We just want them to attack like their suppose to do anyways. So the APC AI is more or less broken? Bumping the topic? I did get a response though. Thanks, I don't expect any changes just wanted to know is anything had been done to fix the AI in later versions. Was the comment about 1.2 really necessary?

You said it not me. Enough peeps had viewed the post already I just wanted some information that's all. We post questions for a reason and not just to annoy other's. If we seem a bit scarcastic at times blame it on our level of differing patience.

It is not "broken" because it doesn't fit Klink's standards. It is "as designed by the original game designers."

Once again, you're posting multiple replies when one would be sufficient. And then whining when the answer given to you isn't the answer you want. The answer above is the final word: "the existing behavior is what the original designers intended." Got it? You can complain about the design, once. Then if you don't like the answer, bite your tongue. You weren't the original designer.

Topic locked to help enforce the tongue biting.
