well, that's the problem - they morphed into something other than what they are called, like democrats morphed into progressives/socialists.

the main problem is that they all seek to hold onto power and grab more power for themselves, which is ultimately communist or even monarchical (a large and powerful central gubmint controlling the peasants)

RD, the fact that you used Urban Dictionary and Wikipedia as sources does nothing for your point.

Have you found that "I'm right and I don't care what you think" wins many people over in these debates?

I assume you're trying to convince people, or you wouldn't go to the trouble to post. Have you had any successes?

The sword has been rested in the temple of time and Ron Paul has been put a slumber, in waiting for future evils to arise to challenge his bravery.

true conservatives, not this rabble that we have now trying to pass themselves off as conservatives.

there once was a time when conservative meant just that: fiscally conservative, a small central government, and a strong *defense*. now it has come to mean something altogether different.

I would propose that it is impossible to be a conservative, when a nations annual debt repayments exceed its GDP. A bankrupt conservative is little different from a bankrupt liberal. Fiscal responsibility is no longer an option, you can either grovel and continue to pay ever increasing sums, or you find a way to make allot of money, traditionally for nations this usually involves invading another nation and stealing their GDP, but in this case it would seem that that sort of action was actually part of the cause of the problem in the first place. The alternative would be to attack the "financial system" that has you over a barrel...

that ^^ and tell everyone, "Sorry, we messed up and we're broke so we can't pay anyone back, so we're just going to hit the reset button, make a new currency, and start over."

as a result:

war(s)

china nationalizes all our factories, but rapidly returns to 1969 and we build more.

japan almost completely implodes, but then copies us.

europe completely dissolves into 1944 St. Petersburg after the economy there craters and Icelandic volcanoes erupt.

the us, canada, mexico, and alaska merge. the military cleans out the mexican drug cartels.

etc....

we're living on the edge of global upheaval; be ready.

I've got an awesome idea to save the economy!

Re-link the dollar with gold! Its worth is high, and keeps climbing!

Its climbing because the dollar isn't.
It's not a matter of politicians tinkering with fiscal mechanisms any more, that sort of foolery is what got us into this state, for 30 years we have been running on scams, we have exported our value generating industry's to cheaper nations, so their owners could make more money from cheap labour and favourable exchange rates. What is happening now was always going to happen. But don't worry, the wealthy elites it was done for are all multinational now and will still profit from it all one way or another. So great nations go bankrupt... not their problem. A failure of leadership, patriotism, and frankly democracy too, has brought us here, there aren't any easy ways back out. A global economic convergence is under way, rich nations will become poorer and some others will become richer. The elites will line their pockets while ordinary folk struggle to survive and the clowns try to distract them from the failure their policy's created.
Our democracy's are no more than economic monarchy's, where we get to elect the court jester. "The Money" determines what happens, while our votes decide what jokes we get told as they do it.

I'm not so sure about that one.

I think by far the best way to deal with the drug cartels is to run them out of business, decriminalize their products.

It won't put them out of business, it will just make their product much cheaper, allow for healthy competition and quality standards, there would of course be much less incentive to run around murdering people. The trade will never be stopped, people like their products, being illegal just gives it a glamour it does not deserve, forces up prices and by consequence crime levels. As for current US policy, Idiotic is too kind a way to describe it, it fails on every count.
