Scottish Independance! My country is in a bad way, the super rich are gorging themselves while the rest of us grow ever poorer. A levelling will soon be needed, my guess is this summers riots were just a practice run for what is to come.

I don't know anybody who really cares about Scottish independence, to be honest with you. Including the Scots I know.

Yes, the Scottish national party, making themselves look foolish...until they lose their next election. There are very few nations I can think of that split without a war, none of us are likely to take kindly to our nation and its people being divided up as if we were cattle to be herded about by the power hungry. Our real problem is the nature of our government, not its nationality, It would be far better to reform the whole system than just divide it into smaller malfunctioning pieces. Still, no point in me having an opinion...Its not like any of us ordinary people will actually have our opinions taken (or taken into consideration). That's what the SNP don't seem to realise, its not just them, they treat us all the same way. I want English independence...from Westminster

Oh, this story. I ran into this on NS a couple months ago. Yes, it is sad. But, in crowded cities and such, people will develop "blinders" that help the focus on their tasks and shut out anything else.Red Spot wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBdY8IfFKuk
Look how the idiot just drives over the kid with his rearwheels after he clearly noticed he hit something. Than nobody feels the need to help the kid.
You can probably find a newsacticle about it yourself.
Still isn't an excuse though.
I don't think so. . .AcneVulgaris wrote:Supply and demand applies to human beings too, as reluctant as anybody is to admit it. Every life added devalues the existing lives.
Just wait 40 years until there are 14 billion people, and see how we treat each other then.

Do you subscribe to the "every human life is infinitely precious" school of thought?

Most people would sensibly consider their own life to be thus.Do you subscribe to the "every human life is infinitely precious" school of thought?
I would only extend this sentiment to those who agree with it.

I don't think so. Most people can see their way to sacrificing their life if it saves others, or for other reasons. Once you define anything as infinitely precious, everything must be sacrificed to preserve it.

Depends what you mean by "infinitely precious" I suppose, I read it as a monetary sense, in which case it is true, as I can't really see that a bunch of communally imagined numbers could be worth more than a life.

Even if that Chinese driver is found, he might be asked to help clean the blood off the street.

I mean that nothing is more precious, in any terms.MrTwosheds wrote:Depends what you mean by "infinitely precious" I suppose, I read it as a monetary sense, in which case it is true, as I can't really see that a bunch of communally imagined numbers could be worth more than a life.

Re: Some people are truly sick
Then I would disagree, A human life is not worth more than say, a whole species of fish, or the crops the rest of the community need to survive a winter. Many people lay down their lives in many ways, so others may live. In modern life we don't really expect to have to do this, but that is all part of the illusion we have created for ourselves. Sometimes the actual price of survival is a life or many lives, and it is often one worth paying. We are only time limited individuals that make up a immortal stream of life.
The stream is infinitely precious, its components parts are not.
And to be unfashionably sexist about it, every MAN should know that it is he who has the responsibility to give, should the need arise, as the stream only continues its flow because of the labours of Women.
This is Law written in DNA.

Actually, nature's law of value is based around how tasty you are and how many meals you can provide for the fuzzy outback banters of vicious love.MrTwosheds wrote:Then I would disagree, A human life is not worth more than say, a whole species of fish, or the crops the rest of the community need to survive a winter. Humanities "law of human worth" is more so based around how much material wealth you possess. Thus, life insurance and such.
