WinRAR
What if WinRAR was packed into a .rar file?
Re: WinRAR
7-Zip is 100% free and legal. Why do people put up with pirating software when there's better alternatives out there?

WinRAR is shareware, witha 40 day trial period. Using it past 40 days without paying is technically illegal.
7-Zip is permanently free.

Re: WinRAR
But why doesnt winrar lock us out after 40 days?
Re: WinRAR
To my knowledge WinRAR is nagware rather than shareware; after the 40 day period, some of its advanced features are disabled and an irritating dialog box pops up whenever you launch it.

Most of these things have free extractors.

Re: WinRAR
Not really true. One can use WinRAR even after the trial period without much hindrance. That's really all that shareware is, which turns into major nagware afterwards.GSH wrote:WinRAR is shareware, witha 40 day trial period. Using it past 40 days without paying is technically illegal.

Now one such case where it is illegal is X-Chat for Windows, which can be used for 30 days before its locked in use. Which doesn't make sense because the source code is open-source for Linux and is free to use. Which is why there is HexChat.
But that's besides the point now... 7-zip sometimes has better compression than RAR anyway, but depends on the files.
If you happen to be looking through my posts, I have completely dumped all things related to Battlezone. Do not contact me, do not bother me. Been harassed enough as it is and am done entirely.
Re: WinRAR
7-zip basically beats winrar hands down on compression, but the settings can be a bit hard to get right.
Re: WinRAR
Winrar is by the creator of the .rar !
I use it everyday, i don't pay, i don't crack it, and i have all options i will (create/read/extract archive, with multiple .rar.part files of the exact number of bytes by files i will.
Winrar read a lot of archives types (like disc image).

Re: WinRAR
I believe 7zip does supports all the formats WinRAR does, just better.

I've found 7z is able to read nearly anything.
