7z is open source... point set match (considering all the other things it beats rar on, the open vs closed nature is something there is no contest over)

Ehhmm, maybe something changed but when I got it you had to pay for a full version OR use a crack ...

It's still like that, i have the limited version, i just had never seen what are limited...
7z is open source
You teach me that!
Hey it's coded by Igor Pavlov! I had read his wikipedia page, how can i have forget that.

Totaly agreed, it's the opinion i give on Blender in another thread.

EDIT: The wikipedia page of 7-zip say he don't compress RAR, he don't say he can do multiple part.files....
It's a good point for winrar.
I note i don't found a program who can WRITE all the format that 7-zip/Winrar can OPEN.

I'm not whether it can compress to .rar or not, but there's no reason to use .rar anyway since .7z is a better format.

It can both extract rar.parts and create/extract the 7z equivalent.

The keyboard and mouse are complement, one for all but bad in GUI, one good for GUI only.
There is really a "keyboard versus mouse" thread?
Return to your math :p

Ah yes this topic, i had read it, it's not a keyboard versus mouse thread (at begin, and after it's a all interfaces versus all interfaces)

7zip is very good but I've never used it for archiving. Also I have had some problems with opening certain rar files with 7zip. Winrar did the job when 7zip failed me so I like both? :)

Well i use both, atleast they are hell better than WinZip. There are certain files that can't be readed by WinRar there is when 7zip comes into action and WinRar is basicaly what everyone uses now days, it has more features...

Thats not true. People that actually know a thing or 2 about PCs tend to use something better than winzip, but the average PC-user doesnt even know how to put a password on the administrator account of their PC and simply sticks to the pre-installed winzip that comes with Windows.
Beyond that, I would not be surprised if there are more 7zip users than winrar users, but thats just speculation.
