FE13 / FERedux discussion

Hey Killerstrike,

Would you mind trying this version and letting us know if you find anything there?

@RD: I question your judgement. Moving this post - silently - to somewhere Killerstrike is likely to never see it is underhanded and harms the efforts of your colleagues.

Perhaps so Killerstrike would see it? We need people to cross-reference previous versions of FE with the current one, which as you can see is exactly what I'm asking.

if you want to attract others to your mod, then you have a perfectly good subject to use for that purpose, so please stop muddying up mine with attempts to lure people to your mod, please.

thank you.

I'm simply attracting attention to a project that needs testing. Posts in development boards tend to be seen by developers rather than end-users. It's hardly as though I'm stealing your audience, is it?

Moved battlezone 2 folder from programs to the C/driver folder -- the one before programs e/c that made it work
this issue is old but still lingers around its kind of funny cause :geek:

Where this version of FE focuses on asset changes and minor script fixes (it's still in BZS, after all, there's only so much you can do with that), this version focuses on script changes first and foremost by translating the entire thing into C++. In doing so, problems have been exposed that before weren't even noticed. It's the same mod. Everybody seems to be assuming there won't be a streamlining somewhere along the line, but I have yet to hear anybody say that.

Since the program adds files to your Battlezone directory, you'll need to run it as an administrator if BZ2 is in a directory you wouldn't normally have access to.

We should want to have the mod working fully and properly in the latest version, not squabbling over who owns or controls what and who gets credit for what. It is disgusting.

It's not like we keep a list of our projects in our signatures to parade them around like a common Minecraft modder, we are looking to ensure that mods that have been brought into the community's extended universe are not lost to the wayside of disuse, bugs, failure to update, or team limitations.

The most I got out of RD when it came to fixing FE was a "do it yourself, and start from the 1.2 version". I got sick of the problems so I did and I am involving anyone who wishes to help.

Furthermore, because the FE Rebuild project involves the building of the mod separate from the original, where as parts are removed from the old, polished, and inserted into the new, it has a far higher chance of catching the various asset issues and even long lost or never used assets that litter the mod. RD's FE is a case of updating the mod in place so that is sorta works and throwing it out there. I even call the project a "Rebuild", where it originally started with just the mission re-codings being called the "FE Redux Missions". These terms are not for show, they give light to both the purpose and method of the project.

People should be concerned about preserving community history, not who gets the name credz for doing it.

It was a thrown together thing. Once the project is in fuller swing I will probably make some marked improvements and turn it into an actual application. Right now it is not really suited for more than testing, but in the future it could become a proper mod content delivery platform.

The reason I have not made any recent edits to this (in the past week) is a side project also related to Battlezone that admittedly OvermindDL1 is doing most of the work on. This weekend he should be able to pass the ugly busywork part onto me and then its just a matter of how long it takes for me to finish it.

If all goes well we should see a major improvement to modding in general.
