So you can digest a Wikipedia preface and spit it out again.

then...how do you explain how my alarm clock knows when it's time for me to get up? :P

You set it. Or maybe someone needed to set it for you?

I suppose it was a bit much expecting people to want to talk about space/time concepts and how they interact with the curious miracle of sentient awareness.

what is sentient awareness? is this about that thing where michelangelo and einstein and little babies were descended from minkeys descended from electrified ooze? if so, where do we all go after we're dead, if anywhere? if we don't go somewhere, why not?

this isn't making any sense; going back to bz2...

The dead don't go anywhere, the flesh is immortal and the individual disposable. Death is an essential gift to the living so that they can continue to thrive uncorrupted by age. You are already much more than you think you are.

You can believe what you want, but these are taken as facts because the evidence only supports them. As soon as there's evidence to the contrary they'll adapt accordingly.

I find it amazing that a human appears to encode more information in its various nucleic acid structures, in order to pass it on to the next generation, than most of them manage to learn themselves over an entire lifetime. Death is no more than the loss of an ordered memory structure and a unique identity. There really is no good reason to preserve it, all of the important stuff is saved and (maybe) reproduced biologically. This is without doubt a miracle whatever way people choose to explain it, it is an astonishingly complex "technology". Its creator is indeed god like. Personality preservation was not considered a desirable function. This was an extremely wise development decision in my opinion. If you want your memories preserved, write a book. :D

In reality there is a life after death. You compose into so many tiny particals that become airborne and end up inside thousands/millions of other people, in them you live on .. and so on ..

so, we are all just products of...recycling? so...when we toss stuff in the recycling bins at the dump, we are actually determining the composition of our descendants? :o

:D

No, your DNA determins the composition of your descendants. That does however not mean you dont take in a lot of microscopic life with every breath you take, including remains of your own ancestors.
You could say that the death are the nutrients for the living .. which we find a normal concept when we talk about plantlife, but in fact it works that way for all life.
But you are right with that statement RD, we're all products of recycling. Where do you think the water you drink comes from? It is likelly your own urine that has been recycled and filtered and send back to you through your plumbing.
This planet has a limited supply of resources and life is part of those resources, and very little is actually completelly lost .. ever.

what a lovely way to look at life on this beautiful planet - intelligent life destined to be no more than...compost in the end; so much to look forward to :D

but, i digress - back to the experts in physics, astrophysics, biology, sub-atomic physics, and thermodynamics.
