I was in a fight in bz and used phantom Vir in a saber but the lancers were targeting me and shooting me with stinger msl
Is this suppose to happen? i thought stingers didn't lock.

Stinger is like FAF; heatseeking.
Shads and multilock are imageseeking, and can be countered by Vir.

Incase this happened to you in Strat, you might want to play around a bit and notice how different ships have different profiles.
Some ships are hard to get a lock on where it is easy to get a lock on others. Similair with heatseeking missiles, they love scavengers and are again not too fond of other ships.
The game also has some balance here, high heat often means low image and vice versa.
