Also, you'll notice many of the whiners against the philosophy of the advanced western societies are those living in western societies. And if they are not living in western societies, they are actively using the benefits and technologies provided by western societies.

I find it amusing.

I agree with red spot to a large degree and I see no hate in his words, just a better understanding of human nature.
Bin laden was a mass murderer, he was assassinated (good!), that is actually illegal under US law, there will be no trial, there will be no truth, justice or understanding for the survivors or the American People. Nice and tidy.

US law for the most part covers only US citizens. Do note that.

For many people atrocities that happen to other people and other places allow them to be disconnected and become philosophical theorists that evolves into some kind of misguided hand-wringing or uninformed judgmental accusations.

Those types are quick to change when Uday Hussein al-Tikriti pulls their daughter or wife off the street for a night of rape, or Abu al-Zarqawi beheading a husband or brother.

Like I said, for the most part, once I get past the sadness of their confused misguided rhetoric, it's kind of amusing.

Nielk,
If you want to generalise things, I like/dislike americans as much as I like any other. I just find it entertaining how it seems that US-history (sort of) doesnt involve any of their own errors. It seems as if the average euro knows what going internationaly, that involves the US, better/more accurate than the people from the country involved.

Dont even blame americans for that, just the way news seems to be reported. It or misses some facts or it heavilly layered with opinion, it seems.
Perhaps it is just the luck I have coming from a very multi-cultural/open-minded country(at least in the open :D) that I get a lot of info fed from different directions.

I think the reason there is so much "subjective thought" by many, given to the war on terror, is from disassociation.

What many don't understand is Al-Qaeda wants to kill YOU.

Let me make it clear, Al-Qaeda wants to kill (enter YOUR name) as soon and as brutally as possible.

The ONLY reason that means little to some, till it happens, is because they are in a sea of hundreds of millions.

A very myopic view point, Bin Laden was not a US citizen, so if he is not protected by US law, then he should also not be subjected to it...
Which was pretty much what Muller Ohma and his gang where saying when The US tried to extradite him, which takes us right back to GW Bushes rejection of international law. If a nation will not extend its laws to protect as well as prosecute people who commit crimes against it or others, then it cannot expect anyone else to do the same for it. Law becomes meaningless and people are free to commit international crimes with impunity. A "war on terror" becomes the inevitable alternative to international law.

Again, remove the disassociation, and imagine a deranged a-hole that spends ALL HIS TIME conjuring up ways to kill YOU.

I'm working on throwing off the scent by impersonating other entities, humans included, with mixed results.

BFT .. err .. PR,

Not sure if that was directed at me, but I just want to make something clear about my reply.

For this discussion I dont care about who is wrong or who is right or who is good and who evil. What I find bothersome is that every source basicly comes with "look at the mighty US sacrificing its sons to save the world from terror" and that is all that has been said (and it happens with so many things, an other recent example is the invasion of Irak). No-one seems to even want to concider there might be an other part to the story, perhaps at the very least the story seen from the eyes of the other side.
Nazi's called the jews the root of all evil ... it was fact .. cause they said so.
The US called bin laded the root of all evil ... it was fact .. cause they said so.
(Hope you understand what I am trying to say as the least I want to do it just blatanlty insult you.)

Do you seriously listen to yourself? Jews didn't kill thousands of innocent people. It is a fact, because it is what happened (or more so, what did not). Bin Laden had direct culpability to attacks that DID kills thousands of people. Jews didn't admit to any of the things they were blamed for (and EVIDENCE says they did none of these things). Osama admitted to nearly everything, boastingly so (and EVIDENCE says he is culpable).
