I am a non-practicing Christian, but my beliefs are in physics and science.

Re: Today, Judgement day?
AHadley, NIV stands for New International Version.
Not King James. Not Constantine. Not Gutenberg.

Re: Today, Judgement day?
I take it the NIV includes no apocrypha?
I am of the opinion that, before one proclaims their beliefs as gospel (heh), they should have at the very least awareness of the content of the basic apocryphal books.

Re: Today, Judgement day?
There is a physical wall, its called economics and its much harder, wider and higher than most people would care to recognise.I use quotes, because unless there is some physical 'wall' or major leveling of Moore's law exponential curve, it's not a 'might happen', but a WILL happen.
Moores law also did not take knowledge regression into account, we are in a regression phase now, as the thread title clearly indicates.
I'm with Shane on the subject of mumbling elephants.

If you're going to follow a bible, follow King James. It's more true than whatever they put out nowadays.
There's a reason why it's been published since the early 1600s.

Re: Today, Judgement day?
The bible is full of gaps and mankind has been predicting the end of the world just about every few years now to scare people in to some kind of blind submission. Also, depending on one's religious orientation it's all very confusing to most of us anyways. Don't hold your breathe though as doing so can actually lead to eventual brain damage and horrible delusions.Clavin12 wrote:The biblical end of the world can happen any time Shane.
Re: Today, Judgement day?
Why does that have to do with the fact that it can happen any time? The bible is not supposed to say when the world will end. According to it only God the father knows.

This is similar to using statistics to argue a point. There will always be elements against technology as well as fringe nutcases.MrTwosheds wrote:Moores law also did not take knowledge regression into account, we are in a regression phase now, as the thread title clearly indicates.
For every argument in the past for the plateau of Moore's Law, i.e., electron pathway, heat dissipation, economics, etc., there always appears to be major breakthroughs announced. When and if quantum processing comes online, it may very well open up Moore's Law to an even steeper exponential curve. Being able to put the processing power of IBM's Roadrunner on something the size of a Micro-SD card may only be 25 years off.

Re: Today, Judgement day?
Sorry I forgot to use the term "Real economics" not the monetary kind but the physical economics of our world, sure human knowledge can keep advancing, but there are real limits in to putting it to practical use. Our world has limited resources and a finite capacity for growth. There is no point in having super-fast computers for earrings if you still don't have enough to eat. There may be number of critical technology's that may enable us to break through this economic barrier, or maybe not, we don't know yet. But even if they are possible, we are still hobbled by evolutionary forces, human nature is a perverse and frequently self destructive force, I don't see that changing in any foreseeable future.

The NIV does not contain any apocrypha, as far as I know. The three main sects of Christianity (Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant) take the current New Testament as truth.AHadley wrote:I take it the NIV includes no apocrypha?
