Hi all (again) :)

Post by NFuser »

For those of you who remember me and wonder what i've been up to, well, after i finished law faculty i got drafted and served the army for 6 months (draft has been abolished here last year lol), i did some work in real estate, but finally i managed to do what i always wanted, i got a job as an intern in a really strong law firm that practices company law, so am happy :)

Few nights ago, i had nothing better to do so for some reason i remembered i had BZ installed and i logged in to see how much of a nub i am (i'm nub, but i think i'm getting my mojo back, won a few strats today as a commander ;) ).
And my first impressions: too much mpi, seriously, you only get 1 strat game at a time -.- and i didn't see too many old players, save for RD and a few others.

Summer is coming soon so i won't be bogged down too much by my job, and a thought occurred to me that i could get back to my old mod. FoxBlade and me were developing it back in 2003/2004, and i was making a new race (3ds max/photoshop), which i fortunately have saved on a dvd (well, most of it). Fox Blade released his (special unit foxblade)

What i wanted to ask is how is the state of the community now, i've been here for 5 days so i don't think i can't get a good impression atm. Is it worth investing time into old mods or should i let it go for good?

Also if someone could tell me if FB or Tempest are still around, that would be nice to know.

cheers :)

Tempest? ehhhhhh.....maybe. FB? Not here at least. Maybe bz2 maps, but I don't even know.

State of BZ2 community is the thread directly underneath this at the time of writing.

It's always good to see old players returning :)

We had a bit of a ruckus with patches recently, as 6.1 couldn't be tested properly. That's stable for most things, but not so good for strat with more than 5 players. PB6 seems to be OK for that. You may find yourself with more than one installation; that's normal.

Indeed, welcome to the community, one big, "happy"* family.

*Just managing to put up with each other long enough to play through a strat with no hard feelings.

WOW! Have not seen that name in quite a while!

FB from the best I can tell is -gone-. Well I think, I don't go to BZ2Maps because when I try to post logic there or apply their own forum rules I get ban threats and moronic IQ dropping replies and hypocritical staff action. Tempest is basically gone. I talk to him on Jabber from time to time, or I did, I don't know if he ever carrier over to my GoogleTalk when we lost BZU and thus the BZU Jabber server (his Jabber was on another server). I think I have him on my Steam friends list too. We have talked off and on about implementing old BZ2 concepts art as in game objects for his on/off BZ2RTS mod.

If you want to read my evaluation of the community currently, I posted it in the 1.3pb6.1 release topic around page 3 or 4... 5?

Wow, haven't seen you in a while. :D

So many old names that have wandered off over the years... At least some of them come back to heckle us from time to time. :D

Hi.

I think I might remember you.

It's what BZ2 has come to nowadays. Even 1.2 is practically dead, and 1.3 is just an MPI fest like it's always been, though now more than ever. There are some vet strats still being arranged every now and then, even in 1.3. Check this out for more info: http://www.bz2maps.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... 59&start=0

Nothing like it used to be 8-7 years ago. Funny, since people used to say already back then that BZ2 was dead. I would much prefer BZ2 in 2004 to what it is now.

It's basically just MPI players, very few vets and occasionally a couple coming back (saw nup and ExE in the spring for instance). Most of the remaining vet community is over at http://www.bz2maps.com.

Nope, haven't seen either of them in years.

APCs, Nielk1 it's good to see you are still here :D
And fulmen, you basically answered what i wanted to know so you get a warm hug and a big ty :D

I've played quite a number of strats over the past few days but 9/10 games is mpi :( but i don't think bz is dead yet.
I'll stick around for a while, got an important series of contracts we need to finish by 23rd so after then i'll see if i should finish the mod. In the meanwhile i hope to see you all in a game :)

When the MPI players try to play STRAT they get chased out (literally) and sometimes are followed back to their MPIs where their human recs are destroyed. We actually needed to spend valuable time on an anti-grief in 1.3pb6.1 because of that ****.

This is false. 99% of the time they leave by themselves and without warning, often when they get killed.

I find it ironic how you are the first to respond to that.

It is not false, it is entirely correct. He did not state that it happens often; simply that it does happen. Which you yourself have just confirmed.

They do...but that's any game. BZ2 is an old era game where you'd fill a "Table" in msn gaming zone, then fill it, then launch. Those joiners were in it for the long haul, such as age of empires or xwing etc. No joiners were allowed during the game, so those who left stay...left. BZ2 is a bit more lax than that as you can actively join, but it was still of that era.

The modern era of gaming is large open servers that you join and quit at your leisure, a method which is much more painful due to BZ2's team based gameplay. The community is small, so those spots will sometimes not fill. On the other side of this are the people constantly refreshing to find a spot in that 8/8, which isn't often but does happen and can fill that spot up quickly and painlessly. It can ruin team balance though.

No patch will ever fix the problem of players dropping; it is what modern gaming has become.
