Same reply as before. I don't see this as an interesting or useful project, so I won't participate.

Besides, Battlezone is an entirely different beast. For one thing, co-op in this game is actually fun. Co-op through MPI is as 'stock' as you can get. The game was designed for it. Why can't the SP campaign be redesigned for it? The precedent is MPI.
It might also help to fix the broken SP missions if the 1.3 patch enabled co-op. As you/we/they go through writing the co-op code into the campaign dlls, fixing the broken parts of missions would not be much of a leap.
1.3 would once again eclipse all of 1.2's capabilities.
When the HD mod is finished, BZ2 could have the gameplay and graphics of a more modern game. Not that I'm planning too far ahead or anything...
The future of BZ2 could be brighter than ever imagined!

Re: Co-op
What future? BZ2 is about as dead as it gets aside from the few dedicated strat players.
Co-op in BZ2 would be fun, but who would code the enormous amount of lines required to do the DLLs, checks, objectives, and such into an MPI-based campaign? On top of that, you also have the cinematics, the audio, etc.. to somehow string in there too. DuneCommand was a nice concept, however IMO, it failed MISERABLY.
Other than that, I honestly don't think the effort would be worth it since I don't think anyone would even take the demand and time just to do that. It'd take months probably just to get the entirety of the campaign done and tested. I'm not trying to talk down on this type of project, but there's not much of a player-base anymore to BZ2, especially with the multiplayer issues coming up again with RakNet changing something in their code.

If you happen to be looking through my posts, I have completely dumped all things related to Battlezone. Do not contact me, do not bother me. Been harassed enough as it is and am done entirely.

Re: Co-op
Possibly. But single-player will live on. That is one of the reasons that I focus on SP. People will still be able to play it in 50 years time. MP will be dead and forgotten soon, if it hasn't already been.TwinShadow wrote:What future? BZ2 is about as dead as it gets aside from the few dedicated strat players.
Single player co-op might still be used in the future.
We need to remember the unique superiority of Battlezone. It has no modern equivalent. It really is the epitome of gaming. It's the 'diamond in the rough'.
The next set of mods I'm making are an attempt to graphically modernise it.
Appealing to a new generation of gamers who would laugh at the game's original graphical capabilities is what I'm trying to do now.
Hopefully it's going to work, and pull Battlezone's arse out of the fire in the process.
This is where I think GSH should put his time and effort into. It's where all of my effort goes. This is what is going to attract new blood. It's the only thing that really matters any more. We NEED to improve the graphics, or the game dies completely.

According to him it's simple anyway.

Re: Co-op
If your retrofit mod does update the singleplayer campaign, count me in. I'd love to expand this thing properly, see what can be done with the story.
Also, the difficulty needs ramping up if you're going co-op.

A little sample of the community of active strat players logged on at one time. This does not include the much larger amount of strat players who happen to not be logged on to teamspeak at the time; nor does it show the regular MPI players (who rarely use TS).

Re: Co-op
OK ZA, but look at practically any other game and they have thousands of players. BZ2 has comparatively few.

My main aim is to update the graphics by remaking virtually all models, textures and probably sound effects (and by stealing as much from QF2 as I can).
Actually patching the SP campaign is a whole 'nother ball game.
I'd like to see it done, but it should be part of the 1.3 patch rather than a mod.
Maybe if we did it, GSH would incorporate it into 1.3...

Re: Co-op
So let me get this straight.
I'll be doing a full time uni course, making two mods and fixing and upgrading the BZ2 single player campaign?
This is a recipe for disaster.
One thing at a time gud-dummit!! Well... two.
Fine... three. But no more!!
